Keyboard Musical Instrument #4

By: Michael Russell

Article Word Count: 415

If you want to really learn about music inside and out, there is no better way to do it than by playing an electronic keyboard. Yes, you heard me right, no better way not even a piano. A lot of people will probably give me flack for saying this, and say that there is no way that a keyboard musical instrument is better than a piano, but I think that once you hear my point you will see all of the reasons behind it. I have been playing both keyboard musical instrument, and piano, so I do know a little bit about what I am talking about

I have been playing a high end Roland keyboard, which is touch sensitive, and I find that the sound is every bit as good as that on even a grand piano. My keyboard musical instrument can do everything that a piano can do it can play loud or soft, depending on how hard I press the keys, and can even generate a tone that is hard, if not impossible, to tell apart from a real piano. But in addition, my keyboard musical instrument has a few advantages over the normal piano.

One of these great advantages is the price. Although my Roland keyboard cost me about $1200 dollars, this is nothing compared to a grand piano. The fact is that a top end keyboard musical instrument sounds the same as a top end grand, for a fraction of the price. Yes, there is something nice about actually getting to sit at a grand piano and play, but that is hardly the point, is it. In addition, my keyboard musical instrument never has to be tuned, and does not vary with changes in humidity. Try saying that about a grand. You can't it is simply not true.

In addition, my keyboard musical instrument is portable. I can take it to shows with me, I can take it to band practice, I can take it on the plane. I can really take it anywhere. Unlike a piano, it is every bit as portable as a guitar musical instrument. This is a great advantage, one that is indispensable for the touring musician. And finally, there is the whole midi thing. I can feed signals from my keyboard musical instrument directly in to the computer, and thereby use it to arrange and to record. I have never seen a piano that could do such a thing.
